The
High Country Bus Festival is held every summer during the last weekend
of July. I started the event because I could not find enough Bus Campouts
to attend and I wanted to share the beautiful mountains of western NC
with others. During the hot summers it is great to get up in the mountains
and cool off in the breezes. BUT - it can get chilly at night, be sure
to pack some warm cloths. The mountains are also known for brief afternoon
showers. The weather can be fantastic, but just in case, be sure to
pack some rain gear and a few pairs of socks……………...be
assured much fun is had by all despite what Mother Nature throws us.
There were over 170 buses that made the trek up the mountain to HCBF
7. |
We all camp
together in a large field and there are no hook-ups. If you require
hook-ups, you will need to reserve the site and settle up with the campground
individually. There are only a limited number of private sites with
hook-ups located near the large group area. You can call the campground
directly at (828) 963-7275. If you want to camp in the large field with
the big group you DO NOT NEED TO CALL. The entire field is reserved
for our use, just arrive and set-up your site in the field. You only
need to call if you want to reserve a private site with hook-ups.(be
aware if you camp in a private site you do not get the group rate, and
there is a chance you could be a long way away from the rest of the
group). |

We are in a public
campground and there are many other guests staying there that are not
associated with our group………….please be aware
of the 10PM quite hours, these will be enforced. In the past the actions
of a few people have nearly caused the demise of the festival - luckily
the other 99% of us Bus Folks are great and the campground staff continues
to ask us back. |

We
are also in the mountains - so needless to say there is a lack of "flat"
real-estate…...you will want to bring something to help level
your bus on the sloping grade of the high country.

To camp with group in Field: There is a $5 per person / per night for the campground fees which includes the use of hot showers, bathouses, ect. In addition, this year there will be a (one time) $5 fee per bus for the weekend to help pay for activites. This will only add $5 to your camping fee for the whole weekend and is per vehicle, not person. Both fees will be collected at the office when you sign in. Please sign in when you get to the campground! |
