Well Karen and I got a new bus in February of 2006. It's a '74 Westy and we have named it Phoenix. I hated to sell my old bus Sunshine, but this new bus will be a good project for us. It does run and drive good and some restoration was started when we bought it from our friend Thomas. He had removed all the rust and welded in new panels, including a rocker and a dogleg and a few other patches.

Here is the story of how we acquired Phoenix the bus....we decided when we sold the last bus that we wouldn't get a new one until we had paid some more bills or a cheap one came along that was a good deal. A friend called about an '85 Vanagon here in town that was a real project. It had potential too, but I am not very familiar with the watercooled buses and it was missing a lot of interior switches and other items. But it was cheap. So we decided to buy it and were going to make an offer on Sunday afternoon. Ironically my friend Thomas called that morning and when I told him about the Vanagon he said I should just buy his bus. Well I didn't think I could afford what he was asking but he told me to come over anyway. Long story short he sold it to us cheaper than the Vanagon to get it out of his garage and make his wife happy (he had just bought another bus). I sure am glad Karen likes buses too!!! Oh, where did the name come from? Well as it turns out I had to go on my first business trip to Phoenix, AZ and was nervous about flying as I had never flown before, but that's another story. Anyway the boss gave me some extra money for sacrificing my weekend and so the money from the trip to Phoenix bought the bus for us.
