I
started looking for a high top for Sunshine soon after I got her, but
was having a hard time finding a "full" hightop - one that
would let me use my upper bunk bed without modification. I found this
Riviera Vista top, and it's perfect...I could essentially sleep 4 people
as I drove down the road! For a trip report and more info on this top

I decided
to have the bus's original paint matched to do the inside of the hightop.
The pics below are just the primer, and I put about 3 light coats on
before spraying the high gloss paint. The wires are for two dome lights
I need to replace, and the little holes are where the roll bar and trim
piece go. |
I
sprayed about 4 coats of the high gloss paint on the interior. It came
out much better than I had hoped. Through some bartering on the Samba.com
I came up with 8 new green side curtains for the windows and a slider
door curtain to cover the front of the high top area, where the spare
tire will go. Even though this high top is the tallest I have seen I
still couldn't use my bunk without unhinging the short piece and laying
it in the rear til I need it. Fortunately the short piece doesn't move
around when sleeping! |
I
got the wrong vent for my top...I actually bought the larger 14 inch
vent and the existing hole was only 10 inches. Since I already had the
vent, and it is a real nice one, I decided to just cut a bigger hole
in the top. It's a little scary, because once you start there is no
going back! I cut the top with my jigsaw after making a pattern out
of wood to mark the hole properly, and then I used that to make the
interior fascia with some extra plaid. I also added a Sunshine Daydream
sticker in the back and some battery operated closet lights. There are
a total of 3 lights. After the vent was screwed down I used an entire
tube of white silicone to seal it, and it doesn't leak!. |
