I
got some new seat covers sewn up with a couple of upper bunk covers
that were being thrown out. I just redid them in all plaid, rather than
try to match the green vinyl. If you want to remove yours here is how:
Remove the headrests and pry the plastic trim out. Remove the 2 hex
bolts on the sides that hold the backs onto the bottoms. On the back
of the seats there are some little metal prongs, pry them out straight
and pull the material off the prongs. The bottom pieces are held inside
a groove on the base. You will have to loosen the alan bolts and remove
the tracks partially. Be careful to watch how they are assembled when
you get your new covers on. Gently pry out the metarial with a screwdriver
or similar. Once the material is loose just slide it off. It helps to
compress the padding to ease the fabric off. |

Mark
Dearing sold me the rare trash bucket that goes between the front seats.
I have been looking for one for a while, but as anyone who has sought
this item knows, they aren't cheap and are pretty hard to find. This
one was covered with the Mexican Beige material, and the front strap
was broken. I recovered it in the green plaid, fixed the front strap
and cleaned it up. In these pics I still needed to add the black duct
tape, as original, to hide the staples. |
I
ran into a guy who had a Champagne Edition
bus for parts, so I bought the chrome bumpers from him and put the rare
rubber impact strips on my bus. |
I
have been doing a lot of camping lately, and with the Summer heat I
decided to install another vent with a 12 volt fan. I have 2 small fans
in the interior installed already, running off the switch/power from
the old refriderator, but I decided to install a third battery to run
the vent fan. I got an entire original Westy electrical system from
John Baird and installed it in the rear cabinet. This way I can turn
on all 3 fans from the bed and run the fans all night on battery power,
plus the fans and electric panels are independent so even if one battery
dies I still have the other. And neither is wired into the main battery
(I just charge them at home, etc. with the Westy eggtimer). Plus the
fans can be run on city power if available. |
